The Industry 01:03
I’m relying on a company for my clothing whose out there to make money and never claimed to care about me, and for my toothpaste I’m relying on the industry that’s keeping me in poverty so I can’t afford to clean my teeth. I’m relying on a company for my soil and seed so I can work twice as hard to eat free. Spend my days learning to help the people who have been screwed over by the industry so I can afford to get my teeth cleaned.

My grandson is four years old; he’s playing house--he’s washin’ dishes--like in some story that I told about our land when the water was clean, before we signed a contract with the gas extraction company. Hold me back, hold me back: I just wanted Chris and Katie to have nice clothes on their backs, now I wanna kill, I wanna kill ‘cause it’s 25 years later and I’m still payin’ medical bills, and goddamn I miss Jill. Hold me down, hold me down, I don’t understand what happens when they pump chemicals into the ground, I just wanna live and have somethin’ to live for, and now I’m tellin’ little Maple that water comes from the store, just like milk comes from the store, our chickens don’t lay anymore; they’re like modern day dinosaurs. E-N-D-O-C-R-I-N-E disrupting. Hold me down, hold me down, I don’t understand what happens when they pump chemicals into the ground, I just wanna live and have somethin’ to live for, and now I’m tellin’ little Maple that water comes from the store, just like milk comes from the store, and vegetables come from the store, no control anymore.

Squash 02:43
I’m a vulnerable defenseless squash seed, and I beg you sir please be good to me. No fault of my mother nearly eaten by thieves that I’m a feeble legless squash seed. I’m an all-powerful watermelon sailing across the sea! Far too many farmers have been good to me and I left them to sail the sea sea sea, yes I left them to sail the sea. Now how can one be both seed and melon? Fruit and vegetable? Wanting for armor and only covered in gold. Sensitive and powerful. I’ll take you down, but I’m vulnerable.
4.
Bee 03:30
/ You hurt my brother. Please, don’t take out your teeth. For he is sure to bleed. Maybe it’s my own femme-fatality, or more, my own jealousy ‘cause you get all your love for free. You hurt me baby, with your impunity. Is this a test of my adaptive-ness, am I progress-less unless I accept with less bitterness and more graciousness this mess is God’s plan for me and be content with my own solidarity while you fly away, honey bee, getting all my love for free. Absolutely everything for free.

You can read my email And never get back to me Read my email And never get back to me Delete my email And never have to deal with me Cause I’m not bringin' hipsters out there spendin' all their money on you yeah. You can play my CD And never get back to me Play my CD And never get back to me Delete my CD And never have to deal with me Cause venues operate According to booze and money. You can lose our CD And never get back to us Lose our CD And never get back to us Like our fuckin’ music And yet never respect us much Cause I’ll never play my penis through the mic the way that kid does yeah. Play our CD And never get back to us Play our CD And never get back to us Like our fuckin’ music And yet never respect us much And I might go crazy like Steve Buscemi in Air Heads does...

about

Like My E.P. is Key of V's May 2012 pre-tour release. Songs "The Industry," "Modern Day Dinosaurs," "Squash," and "Bee" were all recorded around the time Key of V's last album, Things We Drew From the Treacle Well, was being produced, and consequently did not appear on that album. "Fire Safety" was a candidate for "Things We Drew" but did not make it onto the album due to it's length; it appears here with new vocals (Fire Safety was previously released on another limited edition E.P. called "Frack is Whack!"). "Like My Music," which the E.P.'s title alludes to, was recorded in November, 2011 and released stream-only in a blog on Key of V's website, where songwriter Val LaCerra wrote "we could lose a stable, local show to a crowd pleaser any night because the venues we book operate on a certain formula that has little to do with art." As such, "Like My E.P." is a tribute to the process of booking and organizing a tour, which as some of the album art was meant to suggest, had little to do with music. The album is also in honor of friends, family, fans, and other bands who worked together with Key of V, making it possible for them to tour so others could hear their music!
